Dr. Clara Gontijo Camelo

Dr. Gontijo Camelo is a pediatric neurologist and specialist in neuromuscular diseases. She graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and holds a PhD in Neurosciences from the Neurology Department at the University of São Paulo (USP). Dr. Gontijo Camelo is the Medical Coordinator of the Instituto Neurolum, where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning difficulties, neuromuscular disorders, hypotonic infants, neurogenetic diseases, and epilepsy.

Her career has been marked by a deep commitment to improving the care and outcomes of patients with rare and complex neuromuscular conditions. She is actively involved in research on LAMA2-related muscular dystrophy (LAMA2-MD) and other neurogenetic disorders, collaborating with international research teams to enhance diagnostic capabilities and develop potential therapies. Dr. Gontijo Camelo is particularly focused on advancing the understanding of rare neuromuscular diseases in the Brazilian context, with an emphasis on improving clinical care and patient management.
