Dr. Marc Güell

Marc Güell is an ICREA Research Professor at Pompeu Fabra University, specializing in synthetic biology. His groundbreaking work includes innovations such as the radically recoded genome, PERVs-free pigs, gene writing, and skin microbiome engineering. These contributions have had a significant impact in the field, resulting in over 18,000 citations and the creation of three companies focused on therapeutic development. He has been recognized for his achievements with prestigious awards, including the National Research Award for Young Talent (2018), the August Pi i Sunyer Award (2021), and the National Research Award Ángela Ruiz Robles (2022). He is an EMBO Young Investigator (YI) and a member of the Academia Joven de España. He has been recognized as 'Highly Cited Researcher' (2019); and with the National Research Award to the young talent (2018), the August Pi i Sunyer Award (2021) and the National Research Award Ángela Ruiz Robles (2022). Professor Güell's research continues to advance new principles in biological engineering and synthetic evolution (https://synbio.upf.edu), with several of his patents being licensed to leading companies.
