Prof. Dr. Carsten Bonnemann
Prof. Dr Bönnemann is a leading expert in pediatric neuromuscular and neurogenetic disorders. He serves as Chief of the Neuromuscular and Neurogenetic Disorders of the Childhood Section at the NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. His research focuses on uncovering the molecular causes of early-onset neuromuscular conditions, such as congenital muscular dystrophies, and translating these insights into novel gene and transcript-targeted therapies. He has led several groundbreaking first-in-human gene therapy trials using AAV delivery. Dr Bönnemann trained in paediatrics and neurology in Germany and at Harvard Medical School, and previously held leadership roles at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He has authored over 300 scientific publications, is a recipient of the Derek Denny-Brown Neurological Scholar Award, and currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neuromuscular Diseases.
