Prof. Susana Quijano-Roy
Professor Susana Quijano-Roy is a pediatric neurologist trained in Spain (Madrid) and currently serves as the Head of the Neuromuscular Unit at Garches Hospital in France. She is also a Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Versailles-St Quentin. Her clinical and research focus is on early-onset neuromuscular disorders, including congenital muscular dystrophies (CMD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and congenital myopathies.
Professor Quijano-Roy is internationally recognised for her work in developing diagnostic protocols and standards of care for CMDs and SMA. She has been instrumental in the advancement of muscle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a diagnostic tool, contributing to the development of the Garches whole-body MRI protocol, which is now widely used to assess muscle involvement patterns in these conditions. Her research has demonstrated that muscle MRI can provide critical insights into disease progression and severity, aiding in the evaluation of therapeutic interventions.
In addition to her clinical and research roles, Professor Quijano-Roy is an active member of several international consortia focused on neuromuscular disorders. She has contributed to the development of consensus statements on standards of care and has been involved in numerous multicenter studies aimed at improving the management and treatment of CMDs and SMA.
